We often get asked what is the advantage of upgrading a factory bpv to a Turbosmart unit. The immediately obvious point is the build quality – the factory bpv are usually simple, non-adjustable plastic units designed to cope with the factory boost only, whereas the Turbosmart bovs and bpvs are made from billet aluminium and are designed to withstand much higher boost pressures.
But there is also another benefit of upgrading and that’s performance. Our UK distributor, AET Turbos put our Kompact Plumb Back to a back to back test against the factory bpvs on a BMW 1M, and the results speak for themselves.
The solid lines on the graphs indicate the Turbosmart Kompact Plumb Backs and the factory Bosch bpvs are the dotted line. It’s clearly visible how the boost comes on faster and how it is maintained higher through the rev range with the Turbosmart Kompact Plumb Backs. This results in high mid range torque and power and a higher top end power shown in the graph below. (Click on the graph to see a bigger version)
