Product Update: New Kompact Shortie BOVs for VW Group 2.0 TSI Engines

Turbosmart has developed two Kompact Shortie blow-off valves for the extremely popular new Volkswagen Group 2.0 TSI engine, which appears in a range of cars, including the Mk7 Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R, Audi S3 and TT.

Why did we make them?

The standard blow-off valves (aka. diverter valves, bypass valves) used in these engines are simply not a performance-oriented item. They’re made of plastic, they leak, and they degrade over time, potentially causing boost leaks. On tuned vehicles, they struggle to cope with increased boost levels.

Turbosmart’s Kompact Shorties are performance-oriented replacements for the standard valve. They do not leak, and their billet construction ensures they will last even in the most extreme conditions. Plus, the Dual Port offers that classic vent-to-atmosphere noise that many like to hear from their turbocharged cars.

What’s great about them?

Billet aluminium construction and a precision-matched lightweight piston give a high-quality feel and excellent response. Extremely tight tolerances mean there is no need for an O-ring to seal the piston against the body of the BOV, which improves durability and reduces friction.

And of course, they’re all made in Australia.

What’s the difference between the Dual Port and Plumb Back?

The Dual Port vents up to 50% of air to atmosphere, for the sound of a vent-to-atmosphere blow-off valve at high boost, with quieter operation at low boost. It also recirculates enough air to keep the car’s sensors happy, eliminating the lean running often associated with vent-to-atmosphere BOVs.

The Plumb Back is a 100% recirculating valve, so all vented air is routed back into the intake. This ensures quieter operation, avoiding unwanted attention.

What do they fit?

Parts sharing within the Volkswagen Group means that the Kompact Shortie EVR05 fits the following vehicles:

  • Audi S3 2.0TSI 2013-current
  • Audi A3 2.0TSI 2013-current
  • Audi A6 2.0TSI 2015-current
  • Audi TT 2.0TSI 2015-current
  • Audi Q3 2.0TSI 2015-current
  • Audi Q7 2.0TSI 2015-current
  • Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk7 2013-current
  • Volkswagen Golf R Mk7 2013-current
