In the final round of the PSCA series at Las Vegas, Ed Thornton faced a formidable opponent in Mike Maggio. Thornton was the underdog with his ’63 Corvette suffering from various issue on the previous runs, but in the Heads-Up Racing one never knows what can happen, and Ed proved the adage true.
Ed left the line first with an amazing .418 reaction time but Maggio soon caught up and crossed the line first with a 6.35/230 pass to Thornton’s 6.42. But Lady Luck was about to smile on Ed Thornton…
As it turned out, Maggio was hugging the centerline from halftrack on, knocking out the MPH Timing Block in the process. This was enough for a DQ which effectively handed Ed Thornton his frist Pro Street win.
Next PSCA race is the Accufab “West Coast Shootout” October 7-9 in Las Vegas and then the much anticipated $20,000 to win Street Car Super Nationals VII on November 17-20.
